If you watch Netflixâs âJailbreak: Love on the Run,â youâll get plenty of inside info on the real-life story of an Alabama corrections officer, Vicky White, who fell in love with Casey White, an inmate charged with capital murder. Their secret romance prompted her to help him escape in 2022 from the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence. Then the two lovers went on the run, sparking a national manhunt that ended in tragedy.
This true-crime documentary about the couple â which currently holds the No. 1 spot for movies on the streamer â includes conversations with Vicky Whiteâs colleagues, law enforcement officials, Casey Whiteâs jail buddies and more. The most striking aspect of the documentary, however, comes from listening to recorded excerpts of phone conversations between the two protagonists.
More than 1,000 phone calls were either made on or received by Vicky Whiteâs burner phone over a two-year period, 2020-2022, charting the duoâs relationship and offering illumination on their thoughts and feelings. Among other things, the two planned Caseyâs escape, had phone sex, argued about his meth habit and daydreamed about what theyâd do once he was out of jail.
ââOutlaw Manâ by Nu Breed and Jesse Howard is my favorite one,â he says in a recorded call. âIt used to put me in my feelings, you know what I mean?â
âItâs a good song,â Vicky White responds softly.
A former inmate at the jail, Tyler Purser, confirms that âOutlaw Man,â which combines Southern rock and rap, was definitely Casey Whiteâs theme song.
âThere was a song Casey used to play by Nu Breed called âOutlaw Man,ââ Purser says in the documentary. âIf you listen to the lyrics of the song, that explained everything about Casey.â

The lyrics of âOutlaw Man,â which plays briefly in the background of the movie, include the following:
When the sun comes up tomorrow/I probably wonât be around/âCause Iâm a ramblinâ man with a gun in my hand/And Iâm wanted in this town
And the sheriff man has a posse/With a price tag on my head/I was born and raised in these outlaw ways/And Iâll go to my grave as an outlaw man
Pop culture doesnât play a huge role in the documentary, so the appearance of a single important song stands out. The artists behind âOutlaw Manâ have touted its appearance in the movie via social media, as well.
So who are these musicians and what should we know about âOutlaw Manâ? Nu Breed and Jesse Howard are independent artists and part of the Outlaw Nation Music Group, which also includes Ya Boi Dirty, Hitman, The Stixxx and Cori. Outlaw Nation appears to be a band name for Nu Breed and Howard, as well as the name for their overall music brand.
The original video for âOutlaw Manâ was posted on YouTube in November 2020 and has 13 million views to date. Recent comments on the video indicate the song has received a significant boost from its inclusion in the âJailbreakâ documentary. (Just two examples: âYep Casey and Vicky brought me here!â âWhoâs here from Netflix movie jailbreak love on the run!!!!! Iâm feeling this.â)
âOutlaw Manâ hit the iTunes charts after the movie came out on Sept. 25, and has at least a million streams on Spotify, according to a Facebook post from Howard.
On the Outlaw Nation website, Nu Breed and Jesse Howard are described this way:
âA duo with a blend of Southern rock, country and hip hop that has taken the world by storm. From charting on Billboard to touring nearly all 50 states in 2020. The Outlaw Nation brand has grown into a movement & stands for much more than just a band. The love and unity thatâs felt at every Outlaw Nation event reverberates through the fans and leaves them knowing that they are part of something bigger than just music.
âAs the world faces trying times, the collective duo give hope and inspiration to a nation and its people through lyrics and melodies that relay the sound that patriots, freedom lovers and people from all walks of life have grown to love. Great things expected to come from the walls of the Tennessee studio where their recent chart-topping single âWelcome To My Houseâ was independently created and distributed.â
Joe Sapp, a Florida native who lives in Tennessee, performs as Nu Breed, according to one of his Facebook pages. Heâs the rapper in the âOutlaw Manâ video and has 154,000 followers on Facebook as Nu Breed. He has 76,000 followers on TikTok and 4,000 followers on Instagram.
